Listening Meetings

As I did last year, I would like to have a number of “Listening Meetings” with our school community. The format is relatively simple, to start the meeting I will outline very briefly some of my thoughts and plans for this academic year and then following that, there would be the opportunity for community members to respond to what I have said, or say anything else that they wish to express that is important to them.

This is an opportunity for us to share our ideas about the school and to look for ways to work to grow and develop ISE together. The feedback last year was that parents appreciated the opportunity to talk.

I would welcome anyone who would like to talk in Russian to come along at 8:15am on Thursday the 28th of November.

I would welcome anyone who would like to talk in English to come along at 8:15am on Thursday the 5th of December.

I would welcome anyone who would like to talk in Estonian to come along at 8:15am on Thursday the 12th of December

We’ll meet by the Coffee machine in the Community Zone and go from there.

Visitors from Australia

ISE had the honour to host Australia’s Ambassador to Estonia, H.E. Ms Kerin Ayyalaraju and the Second Secretary Sara-Kate Goltz-Wharton today. The Embassy helped to bring two prominent Indigenous Australians to Estonia to celebrate UNESCO's International Year of Indigenous Languages.

Ms Tanya Orman, one of the youngest television executives in Australia and one of only a handful of Aboriginal women in a leadership role in media, and Mr Tyson Mowarin, a digital story teller who preserves and documents language in a variety of ways - film, song, digital applications and products, met with our MYP students to talk about their work to promote Indigenous culture in media and showcase some of their work.

International Christmas Bazaar

ISE is going to take part in the International Christmas Bazaar this year. We will have a stall to sell handicraft made by ISE students. MYP 5 will put up a photo booth.

The Bazaar takes place on Sunday, Nov 24th at Kultuurikatel (Põhja puiestee 27a) from 13:00 to 18:00.

Great program with different activities for kids - meet Santa, facepainting, arts/crafts, games and music. You can get all your Christmas gifts in one place. All proceeds will go to children´s and women´s charities in Estonia.

The admission is free. Hope to see you there with a heart full of Christmas spirit!

Reflectors

It is time to wear reflectors again. A reflector protects its wearer in the dark and is mandatory to wear in Estonia. Please attach a reflector on your right side approximately at the height of your knee so it is visible from the front, back and side.

All students received an ISE reflector this week. If you would like to buy an extra reflector, please stop by the ISE office. The cost is 3 euros.

Train Your Core

Wednesday 20th November, 4pm, ISE Music Room

  • Lecture to introduce the anatomy of core (muscles), their functions, where they're located.
  • Debunk myths, state facts followed by activities of finding the Transverse Abdominis (TA). Understand how to isolate the TA, how to incorporate the other core muscles, what exercises work, how to make exercises more challenging without losing form or technique
  • Learn how to incorporate equipment, the importance of strengthening the back muscles, etc.
  • Hands-on learning - exercises to learn and take with you.
  • Handouts provided.

WHEN: Wednesday 20th November

TIME: 16:00

WHERE: International School of Estonia Music Room

COST: 10.00EU

  •  Wear comfortable clothing. I.e., fitness clothes, shorts, t-shirt, etc.  Bottoms with elastic-waists are best.  No pants with belts, please.
  • Bring your own mat. (So, yes, that means you’ll be on the floor.)
  • Bring water and a towel.
  • Handouts will be provided so, bring a pen/pencil if you wish to take notes. (Option: a clipboard or something firm on which to place your handouts.  I’ve attended many fitness conferences and writing notes on your handouts on a floor is not very comfortable.)
  • Lastly, and most importantly, bring your sense of humour!

NOTE:  If you have trouble getting down to the floor and back up to standing, not to worry. I have a technique I will teach you to safely get down to and up from the floor.

If you are interested in attending please email Carol on cjbensonhitch@gmail.com to express your interest. You are also welcome to come along on the day.

ISE Thermo Mug

If you would like to purchase a very stylish ISE Thermo mug, please stop by the ISE Office. The mug fits just the right amount of coffee, tea, or cocoa and keeps your drink warm while you chat with a teacher or other parents.

Three reasons to buy an ISE mug:

  • It is safer to walk around the building with a hot drink in a thermo mug.
  • Reusable mugs have less impact on the environment
  • Drinking from a reusable mug reduces waste.

The price is 15 EUR for a mug and 27 EUR for two.
