NEWS

THURSDAY, 28 NOVEMBER is a staff in-service day.

NO SCHOOL for students.

Director´s Column:

Hello there,

Earlier this week you will have received an email from the school, calling for nominations to serve a two year term on the School Board. I would like to encourage you all to give serious consideration to becoming a member of the School Board.

Why serve on the School Board?

The school board is the strategic decision maker and vision setter for our school. The Board plays a vital role in ensuring the best possible education for every child at ISE by creating robust accountability and support for the Director and school staff.

Who can serve?

One of the core features of an effective governing board is the importance of having the right people with the skills, commitment, and diversity of perspectives who are all actively contributing. That means, just like ISE, the school Board welcomes nominations from anyone and everyone with the school’s interests at heart. You must be a member of the MTU to become a Board Member. The Board meets once a month from 4:00-5:30 pm, usually on a Wednesday.

Who can I talk to?

Our current Board members are;

John Liau (Ami’s Dad), Nicole Dennis (Lucy’s Mum), Steve Montgomery (Zeb’s Dad), Anatoli Belov ( Vlad’s Dad), Brian Roraff (Jacqueline’s Dad), John Thornton (Staff Rep) and Don Payne (Director)

These people would be happy to talk with you.

How to apply?

You need to nominate yourself. This can be done by email to admin@ise.edu.ee  You should also provide a short biography (paragraph), a statement of interest and a photo that can be distributed to the Membership.

The Annual General Meeting will be held on December 4, 2019 at 16.00 and election of new Board Members will take place at the meeting.

Please give consideration to this important role in our school. We need people like you!

Thank you and enjoy your weekend.

Mr. Don

Sick child

Please keep your child home in case of sickness until his or her fever has been gone for 24 hours without medication. Colds can be contagious for at least 48 hours. Returning to school too soon may slow the recovery process and expose others unnecessarily to illness. For detailed information please read here.

Listening Meetings

As I did last year, I would like to have a number of “Listening Meetings” with our school community. The format is relatively simple, to start the meeting I will outline very briefly some of my thoughts and plans for this academic year and then following that, there would be the opportunity for community members to respond to what I have said, or say anything else that they wish to express that is important to them.

This is an opportunity for us to share our ideas about the school and to look for ways to work to grow and develop ISE together. The feedback last year was that parents appreciated the opportunity to talk.

I would welcome anyone who would like to talk in Russian to come along at 8:15am on Thursday the 28th of November.

I would welcome anyone who would like to talk in English to come along at 8:15am on Thursday the 5th of December.

I would welcome anyone who would like to talk in Estonian to come along at 8:15am on Thursday the 12th of December

We’ll meet by the Coffee machine in the Community Zone and go from there.

International Christmas Bazaar

ISE is going to take part in the International Christmas Bazaar this year. We will have a stall to sell handicraft made by ISE students. MYP 5 will put up a photo booth.

The Bazaar takes place on Sunday, Nov 24th at Kultuurikatel (Põhja puiestee 27a) from 13:00 to 18:00.

Great program with different activities for kids - meet Santa, facepainting, arts/crafts, games and music. You can get all your Christmas gifts in one place. All proceeds will go to children´s and women´s charities in Estonia.

The admission is free. Hope to see you there with a heart full of Christmas spirit!

Reflectors

It is time to wear reflectors again. A reflector protects its wearer in the dark and is mandatory to wear in Estonia. Please attach a reflector on your right side approximately at the height of your knee so it is visible from the front, back and side.

All students received an ISE reflector this week. If you would like to buy an extra reflector, please stop by the ISE office. The cost is 3 euros.

ISE Thermo Mug

If you would like to purchase a very stylish ISE Thermo mug, please stop by the ISE Office. The mug fits just the right amount of coffee, tea, or cocoa and keeps your drink warm while you chat with a teacher or other parents.

Three reasons to buy an ISE mug:

  • It is safer to walk around the building with a hot drink in a thermo mug.
  • Reusable mugs have less impact on the environment
  • Drinking from a reusable mug reduces waste.

The price is 15 EUR for a mug and 27 EUR for two.
